The Ham and Jam Sandwich combines smoky ham, creamy goat cheese, and yes, your favorite sweet ’n savory jam! It’s a simple but unique sandwich that instantly upgrades your work-from-home lunch or summer picnic.

If you love a good cheese plate or charcuterie board, chances are you already understand the appeal of ham and jam. It’s such a simple idea ~ use one of the gazillion savory-leaning gourmet jams on the market these days and you’ve got a super exciting sandwich. It’s a recipe developer’s dream!
➡ Get creative with the cheese: try sliced Brie, or aged English cheddar.
➡ The jam’s the magic maker, stalk the jelly aisle!
➡ Add a green salad and a cold N/A beer and it makes a light and healthy summer dinner.

What kind of jam?
The idea is a combination of sweet and savory or sweet and spicy.
I used a store-bought raspberry habanero jam and a peach ginger jam for my sandwiches, and both were delicious paired with the smokey, savory ham. A fig jam would also be delicious, and I’m kind of regretting not trying it with a hot pepper jelly!

Layer up your ham and jam sandwich
- Spread soft cheese on the bottom of your lightly toasted bread. I used these small thin baguette style rolls from Whole Foods. They’re the best I’ve ever had, I’m hooked on them.
- Top with the jam.
- Loosely fold thinly sliced ham next.
- Finish with greens ~ I use arugula.

you asked
Can I do this with any other meat?
- Sure! Try smoked turkey. Also roast beef, or peppery Italian salami or soppressata.
What about a veggie version?
- Sure, any cheese/jam combo you like on a cracker will work in a sandwich. Soft goat or cream cheese with a spicy hot pepper jam would be delicious.
How would I use Brie?
- I would slice the cheese and layer it with a fig jam, or a chutney, or something bright like a cardamom plum jam.

Ham and Jam Sandwich
Ingredients
- 2 sandwich rolls, or small baguette-style rolls
- 1/4 lb sliced ham
- 1/2 tbsp butter (for toasting, optional)
- 4 Tbsp goat cheese
- 3-4 Tbsp jam
- fresh arugula or other lettuce
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat and gently toast the bread before assembling your sandwich. This is optional but gives another layer of flavor and great texture.
- Spread the goat cheese over the bottom half of your rolls. Top with the jam. Note: feel free to use more of each if you like.
- Add the sliced ham, I like to gently fold it into loose ribbons. Top with fresh arugula and the other half of the bread.
- Slice in half and serve.
